Clairefontaine's writing

Clairefontaine's exercise book and scholastic paper has been a living memory for generations, and is THE reference for those who seek the soft smooth pleasure of writing and perfect text presentation.

Produced at Clairefontaine located in the Vosges, on constantly perfected machines, it has always benefited from the best technical processes.

This writing paper represents in fact a subtle equilibrium between different characteristics :

  • the substance has gradually been increased to 90 gsm, a level which offers   higher opacity and strength but which can still be easily folded
  • the perfectly regular smoothness allows the pen to glide easily along yet the ball point does not slip
  • the sizing is impeccable so that the ink and the felt tip do not blot yet the paper lovingly absorbs the ink
  • the fibres are systematically homogenous so that the printed lines are discreet yet precise and writing is easy
  • the colour is white enough for the text to appear crisply without dazzling the reader's eyes

White envelopes

An envelope is already a message for they who receive it. We believe that its bright whiteness and its soft touch should therefore be outstanding.

An envelope is also a showcase for the sheets which are in its safekeeping. Its paper must be totally opaque and protective. 

It should be possible to write on an evelope manually or to print it in offset or in "flexo" . Its paper should be sized so as to be perfectly adapted to these different personalization processes.

 

Thanks to its scholastic paper production experience, Clairefontaine is specialized in paper for very top of the range envelopes :

  • luminous whiteness
  • bulk
  • opacity and softness

This paper is perfectly adapted to different types of machines for producing envelopes, for printing and for mailing.

It is of course used for the production of Clairefontaine's own white envelopes but it is also exported in large quantities to specialist producers of beautiful printed envelopes.
