For Clairefontaine, sustainable development does not concern only the environment. Integrated, well and good, into the XXI st century, the brand wants to be present by promoting and supporting with solidarity both education and sport.

Education

Because education and knowledge are vital for the children and teenagers of today who will be the adults of tomorrow, Clairefontaine defends several educational projects, in France but also worldwide with UNICEF.

For Clairefontaine, education of children is a priority. Since 1951, when the famous exercise book was created, the brand endeavours to give shoolchildren the best tools to help them succeed at school.

Unfortunately, not everyone is lucky enough to go to school. Around the world, more that 120 million children are illiterate, without mentionning those who were only able to go to school for a few too short years. One thing is clear for the people in charge at Clairefontaine, this figure is unacceptable. "Because a child without culture and particularly withouth education has no future" insists Rhyzlène Nusse, communication manager and creator of the brand.

This irrefutable fact is too often considered as being fate, and it was in order to combat this that Clairefontaine decided to give their support to UNICEF in concrete projects for the schooling of underprivileged children. For four years now, the brand has been giving 500 000 euros every year to UNICEF to build schools, train teachers and buy school stationery. In order not to spread its help too thin, Clairefontaine has mainly given its support to UNICEF Morocco for a global programme combatting school desertion.

Sport

The positive values conveyed by sport correpond particularly well to Clairefontaine's philisophy. A longstanding partner of sailing, the company also supports football.

Sailing : the Clairefontaine Trophée

Created in 1990, the Clairefontaine Trophée is based on a very particular concept : every year they invite eight big sailing champions (French and foreign) from different fields, ocean races or match racing, single-hull or multihull skippers. These champions all compete with the same one-design sailboat, a 7.65 m Sailing One catamaran used exlusively for the Trophée.

The rules of nautical races have been adjusted and simplified. And unlike most sailing races, the Clairefontaine Trophée takes place in a nautical stadium in contact with the public.

In September 2008 in Valencia in Spain, the crowd was thrilled by the show of a real naval battle between Michel Desjoyeaux, Luc Dubois (Team Alinghi), Loïk Peyron , Nicolas Charbonier etc...

Trophée Clairefontaine

Football : support of Nancy (ASNL) and Raon l'Étape

Since July 2006, Clairefontaine Papers have been supporting the professional football team of Nancy (ASNL - Association Sportive Nancy Lorraine) leading regional first division football team.

By accompanying the professional ASNL players, Clairefontaine serves the strong and positive values conveyed by this sport and which correspond to its own corporate values : team spirit, respect of the opponent, dynamism, the spirit of seeking new challenges and of making efforts.

By supporting Nancy (ASNL), the paper maker from the Vosges reinforces his regional involvement. But this local anchorage is not limited to high level football.

Far from television broadcasts, Papeteries de Clairefontaine are also partners of sport on a more local level. Papeteries de Clairefontaine also support the footbal team of Raon L’Etape, a district county town near to the Etival-Clairefontaine site. The aim being to unite in the same love of sport, the young and the less young.
