The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) label checks that forest exploitation respects ecological and social criteria, whilst being economically viable.
Evaluation concerns the way the forest is managed. The label is subjected to very severe control mechanisms : not only the owner of the forest, but all the links in the chain of custody must be certified. So that regional particularities can be taken into account, the principles of the FSC label are translated by national standards. www.fsc.org |

The PEFC “Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes “ label is granted not to individual companies, but to whole regions.
Thus the aim is, on one hand, to reduce the administrative complexity of the certification and, on the other hand, to take account of Europran forestry structures. The granting of the PEFC label is based on requirements defined in Helsinki in 1993 for a sustainable forest economy. The principles defended - sustainable forest management - are similar to those of the FSC label. The PEFC label is submitted to the same control mechanisms as the FSC label : not only the owner of the forest, but all the links in the chain of custody must be certified www.pefc.org |

The aim of the ISO 14001 certifications system is to offer companies an organisational system of reference allowing them to improve environmental protection in their company This system of reference takes into account management of waste, prevention of emergeny situations, training and continuous improvement. The system set up in the company is controlled periodically by an independent certification organisation. The ISO-14OO1 ecological certification does not however give any information on the ecological characteristics of the products, it simply testifies that an organisation compatible with the environment exists. |

|
It testifies that the certified company has set up a management system of all quality linked activities. For example : audit system, metrology, corrective actions, control of non conform products, regular reviews by company management. This certification is granted by an independent organisation (third party) following internationally recognized criteria contained in the document named ISO 9001 standard |
