: Clairefontaine adopted the neutral medium for its paper production .

1981
: Forerunner in the biological treatment of water used in production before returning it to the river, Clairefontaine won in 1988 the "Water Trophy" for the Rhine-Meuse basin.

1985
: Use of natural gaz to supply steam to the paper machines. This combustion eliminates sulphur residue.

1992
: Setting up of the first PCC (precipitated calcium carbonate) production unit, reusing CO2 emitted by our boilers.

since 1994 : Clairefontaine favours the use of recycled fibres (from waste paper) through its Everbal mill

1997 : The mill is one of the first to own a cogeneration unit (of steam and electricity).

1999 : Setting up of the first unit producing compost from the sludge from the water purification plant in order to do away with pollution linked to the smell and appearance of the sludge.

2001
: Thanks to the setting up of environmental respect, Clairefontaine obtained the international ISO 14001 certification.

2002 : Clairefontaine started a programme gradually limiting the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and other dangerous substances from inks, glues and other solutions used in printing. In 2008, 90 % of the target was reached.

2005 : Pulp comes only from forests certified for their environmental management (PEFC, FSC). These favour growth of trees and allow for the absorption of carbon dioxide.
